The new HondaJet is taking off in North Carolina. HondaJet is a new lightweight private business jet.  Its unique construction makes it more fuel-efficient and less costly to operate than similar aircraft on the market today. The jet also has faster cruising speeds than conventional aircraft in its class.

The Honda Aircraft Company, a subsidiary of Japan’s Honda Motor Company, is headquartered at the Piedmont Triad Airport (PTI) in Greensboro and the new plane is being built and assembled there. Honda Aero, which will supply the craft’s engines and is also a wholly owned subsidiary of the Honda Motor Company, has established its headquarters and jet engine manufacturing operations at the nearby Burlington-Alamance Regional Airport.  In October 2011, Honda also announced it would build a $20 million Maintenance Repair and Overhaul (MRO) center at PTI, part of a broader plan that will bring over $78 million in investment to the state over the next five years.

At the time of the MRO expansion announcement, Michimasa Fujino, president and chief operating officer of Honda Aircraft said, "After a rigorous evaluation of site alternatives, we concluded that we could best serve our customers and complement our HondaJet dealer service facilities by placing our MRO facility here in North Carolina, where we are delighted to begin writing this next chapter of our growth. This will also reinforce Honda’s contribution and support of state and regional efforts to continue developing the aviation and aerospace cluster in the Piedmont Triad Region."
