ABB

ABB is the world’s leading provider of transmission and distribution equipment for the power grid and renewable energy sources, including grid modernization (the “smart grid”). It is also a leader in automation products and process automation systems, providing both its power and automation customers with greater energy efficiency, grid reliability and industrial productivity.

ABB’s North American headquarters is located in Cary, and the company’s U.S. Corporate Research Center is located in Raleigh at North Carolina State University’s Centennial Campus, with a focus on electric power grid reliability and availability, transmission and distribution system solutions and grid capability optimization and asset management. The ABB Cary office was selected to house the ABB Human Resources Service Center and the ABB Shared Accounting Services, the new headquarters for all human resources and accounting services functions for all employees in the United States.

In September 2011, the company announced that it would build a new manufacturing facility in Huntersville, a $90 million investment.  ABB plans to manufacture high-voltage land cables for power transmission at the Huntersville factory.
