If you have recently downloaded an app, like N.C. Department of Commerce’s AccessNC™ mobile app, or work for a company that has jumped aboard the cloud-computing bandwagon, you are helping create high-tech jobs. Increasing consumer and business demand for technology, according to a recent TechJournal article, is responsible for high-tech industry job growth outpacing the national average at a rate of nearly four to one.
In TechJournal’s review of Jones Lang LaSalle’s high tech report, also noted is the industry’s heavy support by venture capitalists. High tech has accounted for half of all venture capital funding over the past four quarters.

The growing technology industry in North Carolina is supported by specialized incubators, such as Joystick Labs, located in Durham’s American Underground facilities and focused on identifying and launching the next generation of digitally distributed video game companies.

In nearby Raleigh, the technology industry has seen 2.8 percent job growth over the past decade. Factoring into that percentage is a dramatic 8 percent job growth since 2009. These statistics have earned the capital city the number four spot on the recently published Forbes' Best Cities for Technology Jobs list.

Raleigh and Durham feed Research Triangle Park, known for industry innovation. Technology leaders Cisco, EMC Corp., IBM and NetApp are among the 170 companies doing business at the 7,000-acre science park, one of the oldest and largest in the nation.
