The Council for Entrepreneurial Development (CED) released a comprehensive report on the impact of 1,823 privately held, high-growth companies in North Carolina over a 20-year span. The report, entitled “Starting Something: The State of the Entrepreneurial Economy of North Carolina, 1992–2011,” was released at the CED’s annual meeting, held January 25 in Research Triangle Park.
According to the CED’s press release about the report:
- Entrepreneurial sector companies in North Carolina created 40,560 jobs from 1992–2011
- Jobs created in the sector remain in-state
- The companies experienced unusually stable growth patterns, despite economic fluctuations
- The past 15 years have seen significant out-of-state and international investments made in North Carolina’s entrepreneurial sector
