For the second year running, North Carolina was ranked number three on Forbes’ Best States for Business list, published November 22, 2011. In the full report on Best States for Business and Careers, North Carolina earned the following rankings:
- No. 1 Best Regulatory Environment
- No. 2 Best Business Costs
- No. 3 Best Labor Supply
Governor Bev Perdue’s top priority is creating jobs. The Governor is committed to promoting the expansion of companies within the state, while also working with companies seeking to locate in North Carolina. The Governor’s JobsNOW program is a resource for individuals looking for employment or career change. It also provides information about expanding or creating a business in North Carolina.
North Carolina’s Gross State Product is ranked tenth in the nation at $407.4 billion, with a one-year growth rate of 3.4 percent. In addition, North Carolina’s workforce is 36 percent more productive than the national average.
Forbes’ rankings were based on 11 data sources and measured six vital business categories: costs, labor supply, regulatory environment, current economic climate, growth prospects and quality of life. In addition, 37 points of data were factored into each of the six categories.
The capital city was also ranked by Forbes this month. Raleigh earned the number four spot on the Best Cities for Technology Jobs list.
