Forbes, this week, published its list of the best places for business and careers. North Carolina cities had a strong showing among the top 25 list, earning four spots. The highest rated North Carolina metro area was Raleigh, coming in at number two. In addition to the state’s capital, Durham was ranked number 14, Asheville placed at number 17 and the Queen City, Charlotte, came in at number 18.

Business costs 18% below national average

Home to N.C. State as well as six other universities and colleges


Durham, No. 14
Projected Annual Job Growth: 2.0%

Home to Duke University, N.C. Central University and seven other institutions of higher learning


Asheville, No. 17
Projected Annual Job Growth: 1.8%
Business costs 21% below national average
Home to the U.S. National Climatic Data Center


Charlotte, No. 18
Projected Annual Job Growth: 2.0%
Second largest financial hub in the nation
