The holiday season certainly serves as a boost for the economy.  The aerospace and aviation industry is no exception. As people head to the airports for the long Thanksgiving weekend, they can expect to experience full flights according to the Air Transport Association. Meanwhile, at the 2011 Dubai Air Show that wrapped up on November 17, records were set for attendance and—more importantly—orders.

Media outlets are reporting $63.6 billion in orders made during the event, including a record-setting $18 billion order by Emirates Airlines. The success of the Air Show translates into boosts for Boeing and Airbus. In turn, new orders will positively impact the already busy Spirit AeroSystems’ Kinston plant.

“The new orders announced by both customers is certainly good news for Spirit,” noted Sam Sacket, Corporate Communications for Spirit AeroSystems.  “We are already engaged with plans to respond to increasing rates on several of our programs, including those at the Kinston facility. We are proud to be a key supplier for Boeing and Airbus and look forward to meeting customer requirements for increased rate production.”

Last month, Spirit AeroSystems announced the shipment of the first production composite center fuselage panels for the Airbus A350 XWB program. The panels were produced in the Kinston facility, where the company combines intelligent design with smart manufacturing methods.
