The North Carolina Biotechnology Center
Established in 1984 as the world’s first government-sponsored initiative for economic development through biotechnology. With offices in Research Triangle Park, Wilmington, Greenville, Winston-Salem, Greater Charlotte and Asheville, it has applied more than $200 million in state funding to build a foundation for more biotechnology growth, facilitate statewide partnerships and create a biotechnology community.

North Carolina Research Parks Network
From the state that defined the concept of the research park over 50 years ago, North Carolina is now focusing on the business imperative for collaboration in the 21st century with the creation of the North Carolina Research Parks Network. Stemming from the growth and success of the Research Triangle Park, an established network of research parks has emerged across North Carolina, offering a variety of solutions and resources for the life sciences industry.

Research Triangle Park

The largest research park in the U.S.—anchored by three major research universities (Duke University, N.C. State University and The University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill)—home to more than 100 research and development organizations, employing nearly 40,000 people.

Centennial Campus
A 1,334-acre site adjacent to North Carolina State University’s main campus—home to well over 100 large and small companies, government agencies and university units.

Piedmont Triad Research Park
A highly interactive, master-planned innovation community developed to support life science and information technology research and development located in downtown Winston-Salem—home to 34 business and university units that employ nearly 850 people—an expansion, led by Wake Forest University Health Sciences, is currently under way.

Carolina North
A planned research and mixed-use academic campus to be located on about 250 acres two miles north of the main campus of UNC-Chapel Hill, enabling public-private partnerships, public engagement and flexible new spaces for research and education.

Charlotte Research Institute
The portal for business-university partnerships at UNC-Charlotte. Regionally, CRI accelerates technology commercialization and the growth of entrepreneurial ventures. Globally, CRI develops intellectual capital through collaborations with industry, government and academia.

Gateway University Research Park
A joint research campus developed in collaboration with North Carolina A&T State University and The University of North Carolina at Greensboro. The research park will promote the research findings and knowledge-based products being developed at the universities and attract and retain educational, corporate and community service agencies that advance scientific and educational research.

North Carolina Research Campus
A private-public partnership between the University of North Carolina System, Duke University and visionary David Murdock. NCRC is located on 350 acres in Kannapolis. The purpose of the campus is to push the industry/academic research model to the next level.
